Or to paraphrase a T-shirt I saw once, "I Am This Many" with nine hands, one of which has three fingers up and the rest with all five digits up. Yes, it's that time of the year again. Around 11:00 today, the president of the company I work for announced that the office would close at 2 p.m. Wow, what a nice thing to do on my birthday! And the stock market was closed today too. I never knew I was that important to the world.

So I decided to treat myself to a late lunch at Panda Buffet. Even though it was their slow time, all the buffet trays were full with hot food. It was almost as if they put everything out fresh just for me! I even got an actual fortune in the fortune cookie:

You will step on the soil of many countries.

Wow. Better start saving up for plane tickets, huh?

It was sunny and spring-like today, too. Not only that, but I've gotten a lot of nice cards and e-cards from friends and co-workers. It's been really a swell day.

Now, tomorrow, the fun continues as I go to my mom's and have the long-desired meatloaf dinner. Yum.

p.s. to Wolf: the "word of the day" in the fortune cookie was Ya-Shua (toothbrush).

Wish I could find pictures to go along with an old Boynton card:

Hippo...birdy....2 ewe
Hippo...birdy....2 ewe
Hippo...birdy....deer...ewe

I love that one! I sent similar Christmas cards one year:

"Wee fish ewe a mare egrets moose and a hippo gnu deer"

That's Sir Elton in your icon, right? A&E had a Biography about him tonight (actually it's still on - two hours from 8 till 10). I watched part of the first hour, but I'd been watching too much TV already tonight so I'll have to catch the rest of it some other time.

Congratulations. And a reminder... only two more years before that dreaded invitation arrives from the AARP. How is it that they know everyone's birthday anyway?

Really glad to hear that your day turned out well. I'm sure you'll be happy to know that I took the entire week off (in your honor, of course) and that the library and all city offices in Harvard, Illinois were closed today.

Wow. I really should do something useful with all this power and prestige I seem to have.

Thanks for the congrats! I'm not really looking forward to hearing from the AARP, though. I'm not sure I feel old enough for my present age group (except in the mornings when all the joints creak).

The AARP? It's a great big conspiracy to sell you insurance!

Don't worry... I'll forge on ahead and send word on how the terrain is. It's not too scary yet, but this is only the second day.

Thanks!
