Brand New Car!

I just bought a 2015 Subaru Forester! It replaces my ten-year-old Dodge Stratus, which was in need of a ton of repair work to fix just what I knew was broken, let alone what else could be wrong with a car that has 180,000 miles. It's much bigger, and I love the window space which makes the interior seem so airy as well as gives me a better idea of what's around me on the road. It'll be great for camping trips and comfortable for road trips. Though it's much bigger than the Stratus, it is supposed to have significantly better fuel economy and is a partial zero emission vehicle. I'm usually stoic about cars, but I have to admit I'm a little in love with this one.

It has so much new technology, and a giant owners manual. I will have to hire a tutor to learn all the features, I fear. But it drives very, very nicely.

Yay for new cars! The Forester was one of three cars on my short list back in April, along with the Jeep Patriot and the Buick Encore. I was very impressed with the size and visibility of all three - after driving a Ford Focus sedan for the last 5 years, I was tired of turning gear stowage into a game of horizontal Tetris. Ultimately, I ended up with the Jeep, which was more into my price range.

Do you have towing capability with yours? (No towing on the Jeep, alas.)

If I had the towing package, which can be added sometime, it could tow up to 1500 pounds. I don't know what size trailer that would be, but it's probably enough for a little pop-up camper.

Patriots are nice. It was on my short list, too.

Very nice! I have a couple of friends who have Foresters and they really love the leg room. Wishing you many happy years with it.

(Oakley is hiding between the love seat and comfy chair due to the storms, but I'm sure he'll be happy, too.)

Thanks! A couple of friends in Marquette have an older one (when they were smaller) but they love it too. I'm really happy with it.

I hope the storms pass soon, so Oakley can come out to play again. I know the storms are on their way here; Detroit's big fireworks display is tonight, but I have no idea how it's going to happen with the forecast we have.

Well done! Our vehicles have a lot in common, and I'm sure you're going to love the thing.

Too bad they don't make those in orange, though. :-p

I thought you'd approve. No, orange wasn't available. I ended up taking the dark gray one they had on the lot. I would've liked the deep blue one I test drove first, but it was a 2012 and the continuously variable transmission varied a little less continuously than it should've. (I'd read about that issue; it's been resolved by now.) I didn't care as much about the color, in the end.

I like it a lot. It'll go on its first road trip this week when I go visit Dave in metro Louisville.

P.S.: There's an orange CrossTrek in the parking lot at work these days. I checked -- it doesn't have a Montana plate, so it isn't you. :)

There are definitely a fair number of orange ones on the road these days ... we've formed our own little fraternity. :)

If you need a little more cargo capacity, though, the Forester is absolutely perfect.
