The wolves & moose of Isle Royale

I've posted things about the wolves on Isle Royale, a large island that's also a national park in northern Lake Superior. I discovered today the Wolves & Moose of Isle Royale website. This particular post from January 19, 2015 summarizes where things stand as the winter study season begins there. These days, there seems to be not enough wolves to keep the moose under check, so the moose have put a big dent in the vegetation of the island. But the moose may have had a bad year last winter themselves (not reproducing as much because the weather was so severe).

Several years ago, the New York Times had a fascinating series of blog posts from the lead researchers of the project, which got me hooked on following them. My previous posts on it are under the tag wolves (along with some other wolf-related items).
