No room for nonbelievers

Mayor denies atheists space at Warren City Hall where a "prayer station" is permitted.

Meanwhile, Warren's National Day of Prayer observance includes schoolchildren praying and a high school marching band, all on the grounds of the city hall. (Note: the praying children are from a Christian school, but the band is from one of the Warren public school districts.)

I disagree with that man. Freedom from religion is kind of a religion in itself, only without a book of conflicting rules, and a deity.

I'm guessing that the mayor thought he was very clever when he gave his reason for denying the request for the atheist display as "it's not religion." Um, yeah, that's kind of the point....

This is not the only issue I disagree with the mayor over. Funny thing is, when I first moved in, 16 years ago, I thought he was OK. Of course, the mayor at the time was kind of a schmuck. (We seem to elect a lot of those here.)

Riffing off a friend who's a retired lawyer: two changes need to happen with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights: 1. dump both into Word or Pages and make the pronouns gender neutral and 2. change the First Amendment to read "freedom of and from religion."

Was it John Adams or Thomas Jefferson who took the oath of office on the Constitution?

One of the founding fathers, I think, said that the constitution should by mandate be redone after a certain amount of time, to make sure it was current. Seems like a good idea, until you get to a Congress such as the current one. But some progress might have been made already to make it more applicable to the world we inhabit today.

I don't know which president took the oath on the Constitution. They all should, really.

I would guess Jefferson, myself, though I haven't looked into it either.
