Michigan GOPer: 'Herd all the Indians' to Detroit, build a fence and throw them some corn

The Michigan GOPer in question is the long-time county executive of Oakland County, L. Brooks Patterson. The quotes appear in the January 27, 2014 issue of The New Yorker, not exactly a little-read magazine of no importance, in an article titled "Drop Dead, Detroit!" After making sophomoric comments about Detroit, African Americans, and Native Americans (like, why the latter, out of the blue?) and being called on it, he now claims the author of the New Yorker article has wronged him.

Don't believe me? Here's the local coverage: Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson blasts Detroit in 'The New Yorker' magazine

Patterson has long made ignorant, divisive comments, driving a wedge between the county he leads and the rest of the metro area. And his citizens keep reelecting him, which makes them partly culpable for his continued idiocy.

I have to work in Oakland County, but I don't have to buy things there.

How do these people get elected in the first place, let alone re-elected! I often think the same thing about some of our politicians.
