Sucking at social media

... well, kinda. I think that when you have events in your life such as, perhaps, a vacation (to take one random example), one posts about that in whatever social media venue one uses. If nothing else, it's a nice lift from the usual things like "Working today, ugh" and "I had pie, it was good!" and "Rush Limbaugh is an idiot and kicks puppies too." But I can't help but think that if I were to say something like, oh, I dunno, "I'm going to Marquette for Hiawatha!" I'm sure that somewhere out there a burglar would be rubbing his hands in glee and pulling out his lock-picking tools and black facemask. Hell, if I go to an open mic that was announced on Facebook, I don't "join" the event until after I'm home from it. (Remember, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.)

I think one also can meet up in person with people one knows mostly through a social media venue. One day I will have to manage this better.

Anyway, in case you're wondering why so quiet here, I've been away. More details about that tomorrow Friday.

I kept an eye out for you at Hiawatha, but I didn't see you. Oh well.

I think I saw you from afar on Friday night in the food area, although I don't know if you were going to be there on Friday (so maybe it wasn't you?). And I went looking a couple of times on Saturday and Sunday, but alas. Sorry we didn't get to at least say hi -- here's hoping for next year.

If you live alone, yeah, don't tell the world when you're about to be out of the house. I'm pretty sure those kinds of announcements have already been used for break-ins.

Meanwhile, I'm renting a place with 2 other people and the house is almost never empty. No matter what any of us does, there always seems to be at least one person at home.

I wouldn't be as concerned if I had pursued anonymity more, but it's possible to find my address from here, probably pretty easily, and has been for a long time, if anyone really wanted to. (Not that anyone should. I'm not prepared for company.) I suppose I should be more concerned about identity theft than real theft, though, maybe.
