The eve of destruction?

Past the eve of destruction
Actually the eve of destruction was last night, for this morning the abandoned house next door was finally demolished. This is almost exactly eleven months since the city council ordered "nuisance abatement" (which we used to call "condemnation" when I lived in Detroit). I don't understand all the delays in the interim. I know the county claimed it for unpaid taxes. I think it was sold to someone, or maybe to a real estate broker. At least now the house and garage are gone. They had not been maintained in about five years, and were in pretty sad shape to begin with. I've no idea whether anyone will build a new house there yet.

My neighbor and I watched them work on it for a while this morning. She hadn't looked this happy in years. :)

Time to throw a party soon, while you've got the parking space available! :-D

That's a big enough lot, we could almost have a music festival there.

(NO I'M NOT SUGGESTING THAT!)
