Canoeing in the Adirondacks in 1986

In August of 1986, I got together with my three best friends from college to go canoeing in the St. Regis Canoe Area in upstate New York. I had just gotten my first SLR camera with interchangeable lenses; I think I took rolls 2 and 3 on the trip. This in addition to not being a terribly experienced canoeist, either. But we had a great time over the four-day trip. (Or was it five? I don't remember.)

After the storm
Of course we had one late afternoon gullywasher during the trip. But the lighting afterward was pretty unusual. That's the Ott Lake Rambler and his soon-to-be wife in the canoe.

Then my backpack blew up.
Before we left we had to sort out all the gear and food. Boy, was I young then.

If you're curious, here's the whole set (all five photos) on Flickr.

Yeah, that's for sure. Or at least younger.

I kind of miss those days, except I think I'd take things a little easier now so it would cool to try some things again, like have another canoe trip.

Wonderful photos. The first is my favourite - very ethereal.

Thanks. :) I like that first one, even if the print has degraded somewhat over time. (Hm, I found the negatives, maybe I can get it reprinted....)

The canoe shot here makes me want to break out the kayak - December be damned. :-)

The water isn't frozen yet! You might want some neoprene, tho.
