Cat Mysteries

My friend Dave was horrified to learn that, not only is there a subgenre of mystery fiction known as cat mysteries, there are three prominent examples featuring five intrepid felines:

  • Koko and Yum-Yum, stars of Lilian Jackson Braun's "The Cat Who" mysteries (1966– )
  • Midnight Louie, and recently Midnight Louise, in the Carole Nelson Douglas series named for Midnight Louie (1992– )
  • And Mrs. Murphy, the sleuth in the series by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown (1990– )

All three series seem equally prominent these days, at least to me. I don't know of any dog mysteries. I know of dogs IN mysteries, but they haven't been the sleuth, just the companion of the sleuth.

I just had to share this important bit of literary analysis.
