Weekend weather recap

We only got around four inches of snow in most of the immediate Detroit area, maybe a bit more, out of the latest storm of the century. But because it got very cold very fast during the snowfall, it went from being wet and slushy to hardpacked and slick. Since October, directors of county road department have been telling us that there wasn't going to be as much plowing this year, especially on an overtime basis, due to widespread budget problems. So the roads are in pretty bad shape for a storm this size. It's also now too cold for salt to work, but they rarely use sand or anything else on the roads here. So we're stuck, at least figuratively but possibly literally.

I had already planned to work at home today, because I needed to wait for city inspectors to check out the new furnace. (It now has two green Approved stickers on it.) Sure was awful nice to not have to try to drive today. For most of the day, the sky was a stunning blue, making a pretty though overly bright picture with the snow still clinging to branches as well as on the ground. I'm sorry I didn't get some kind of photo, even of my dumpy little backyard.
