This week

As my father would say while playing euchre when he'd get a hand full of worthless cards, "I'll have another one of those and quit!" I was off on Monday, but the three days since have been full of drama and panic, and it's not even over important stuff such as "Do I still have a job?" Really, these days, anything short of that is trivial and not worth the upheaval, but just because I know that doesn't mean I can stop it. But now it's Friday, it looks like it'll be a quiet day, and maybe I'll make enough progress that I can leave the office while it's still daylight, as opposed to the last two days when it was deep into twilght when I left.

Tomorrow I need to take my car for an oil change, tire rotation, and speculation on what it'll take to fix the heater blower, which is currently only working at high or very high; I lost low and medium months ago. I think I finally need to mow my grass for the first time in two months, too, since it has finally gotten enough rain to turn green and grow again. Ah, the joys of suburban life.

On Sunday, I'm taking my mom and a friend of hers to the cider mill for apple cider and donuts. The weather is supposed to be sunny and warm, so I'm sure it'll be crowded, but it'll be fun.

And on Sunday, you may notice that the date will be 10/10/10. Flickr wants us to document our lives with a photo on this auspicious day. They had something like this earlier in the year and I missed it, but I hope to remember this time. There'll probably be cider and donuts in my photo.

You remind me of my own father's classic card-playing comment, whether it was euchre or cribbage: "This may be a hand but it looks like more like a foot to me." (And variants of same.)

I like that comment. May I borrow it? But it's been a long time since I played a card game with other people, so I can't say I'll overuse it ever.

Sure, feel free. I'm sure Dad got it from somewhere else too.
