Insulin Can Now Be Made Cheaply from Flowers

New source of insulin blossoming on the Prairies
A group of pioneering Canadian scientists is working on a way to make a much cheaper form of insulin using an easily grown plant: the safflower.
An acre of safflower plants might yield as much as a kilogram (2.2 pounds) of insulin. The scientists are about to embark on phase 3 of trials, which will show how well this insulin works for diabetics.
