The end of the journey (again)

I've been home since late Tuesday, but to finish up the narrative from the previous two posts: Monday was quietly spent watching birds, writing a lengthy LJ post with photos, having dinner and listening to recordings of Swedish guitarist Göran Söllscher (genius of the 11-string guitar).

Tuesday, I got to hang out with my cousin Melinda before I had to start the long slog home. We went to Ditto's Grill for a fine lunch, and then to Ear-X-Tacy, because someone has to support independent music stores, dammit. The haul included:

  • Richard Shindell's newest CD, Not Far Now — Very good, a bit more American sounding in arrangements (but with some Spanish lyrics); I need more time to catch all the lyrics but "Gethsemani Goodbye" and "State of the Union" stood out for me so far.

  • Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, and Mark O'Connor, Appalachian Journey — A bit of classical and a bit of bluegrass, this is the second volume from the trio (following Appalachian Waltz, which I already have). James Taylor and Alison Krauss make guest appearances. Very enjoyable.

  • Foo Fighters Low/Times Like These DVD/EP — which I didn't play on the trip home, oddly enough (no video while driving, there!). It contains at least two videos I've seen, and I like the tune "Times Like These" a lot. And I got it used too.
Back at Melinda's we took one of those self-pics all the kids are doing, and Melinda posted it to her Facebook page, even though I have the worst hippie-hair ever (even with my hair in a ponytail).

And then I drove home through Indiana and Ohio in the rain. The end.
