It's a dry cold

City Airport, the closest reporting station to my house, reported a low temperature of −2°F last night. My little temperature gauge on the back deck gives a low of −4°. The skies were very clear until daybreak, it seems. Weather forecasters were saying it would be the coldest night in about five years here. When I got home from Trixie's open mic, around 12:30, it was cold, but not awful cold, because the winds were calm. It was actually a pretty nice night, I thought. But my house was making noises like I'd never heard before, big popping sounds coming from the attic. Coldest night since I got the new roof in August 2005, maybe that was it. Now it's 10 degrees above zero, and snow is on its way. We're about 16 inches of snow above normal for this time in the season.
