My sister lost her job in early September. She applied for unemployment very soon afterward, but has still not received any benefits. Last week, the state unemployment benefits office clerk said they were so behind because of the large number of new claims, they can't keep up. She/he suggested that if my sister hasn't gotten a check by Nov. 21, to call back. That will be about two months since she lost her job. I know benefits can't really be dispensed instantly, but two months seems like a long time. Maybe we can start putting people back to work in the unemployment office to process all the new claims?

Oh. I forgot. That would cost money. The state government doesn't have any money, either.
