That place we used to go

The news item will be of interest to exactly one other of my readers: NMU buys Hardee's. No, not the whole corporation, but just one particular location across from the Northern Michigan University administration building. Their plan is to develop the area between the admin building and the physical fitness building (and football statium) into restaurants and student residences. From the article, it appears the Hardee's is already closed.

I guess that'll be all nice and everything, but I was going to that Hardee's since it was a Burger Chef back in the early 80s. I went back when I was in town, even though I'm not too crazy about the Hardee's menu these days. Yeah, I'm all sappy over a fast food outlet. Anyway, I'll miss it. Change. Bah.

Not that one specifically
It seemed for a long time I was the only one who remember Burger Chef. Nice to know that I'm not.

Now the question is: Does anyone else remember when Hardees was a roast beef place, a la Arby's?

Hardee's still does roast beef, but they've been promoting their Thickburgers more lately.

There was a new Burger Chef franchise a couple of miles from our house in Chesterfield Township in 1979-80. Sometime in 1982, I came home from Northern for Thanksgiving to find it was a Hardee's, and when I got back to Marquette, THAT Burger Chef had become Hardee's. (Dates are approximate; it was a long time ago.)

http://www.freewebs.com/burgerchef/ has a lot of info on their logos and menus. Be forewarned, it'll play an audio file of a commercial for BC, and the stop button is at the very bottom of the page.
