Short update

Dave is here... we're going to hear (and see) Bruckner's 9th Symphony by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra tonight, with Mozart's fifth violin concerto opening the program. The Freep published Mark Stryker's review of Friday's concert today. Sounds like it'll be very good indeed. There's a chance of rain and thunderstorms tonight. I hope any thunder is timed to occur during the first movement of the Bruckner, which is loud and dramatic.

Yesterday evening was shopping night, and we saw mystic506 at Borders. I also picked up Ellis Paul's collection Essentials, which I meant to buy at last year's Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival except I ran out of cash.

Have a mah-velous time!

Funny, I went to Borders today too looking for "High Times" magazine. Didn't find it. How should it be filed? "Arts & Culture"? "Food & Wine"? "Men's Interest"? I just gave up.

84 here by the lake today, though no Detroit HD skipping across the lake as of yet.

"High Times"... I wonder if Borders is cutting back on magazines. They've cut back on music, so who knows.

We only got to 75 on Saturday, 68 yesterday. I am not complaining -- 84 is too warm for me. It was a gorgeous weekend here, with no rain even though it was forecasted.

My bad, it's filed under "Home & Garden". In addition one of the department heads from work was at Borders, so I figured keeping a low profile was best.

Glad the weekend was a success!

Sounds like a good concert program; I hope you two have a great time!

Sounds like a great concert - hope you both enjoyed it! One of these days, I'll get back downtown to see the DSO again..

I recently got a copy of "Essentials", as well. Well worth the listen - and goes a long way to make myself forget turning him away from our jam session at Bliss in 1999. (Not quite far enough, though... @#$%@#$%#$%!!!!)

I wonder if Ellis was touring the campgrounds at Hiawatha last year... the Ott Lake Rambler and I were off visiting other campsites at night ourselves, so we didn't have the opportunity to turn anyone away. We did see the Klezmatics at some late night jam sessions -- first time I've experienced a jam with clarinet. :)

I highly recommend going to see the DSO. Both the hall and the orchestra are superb and you can usually hear everything from any seat in the house.
