I fled the office after a hectic morning involving unclear assignments, logic and higher math, and general mayhem. It's the first sunny day in what seems like weeks, colder in the wake of a front passage but not too cold. Lunch was at a place with pretty much no good nutritional alternatives, but it was all my addled brain could come up with and at least it wasn't in front of my computer. I drove back to sit in the parking lot to sit for a few moments before going in. A Vivaldi cello concerto was winding up on the radio; it was followed by virtuoso mandolin playing by Chris Thiele, the leader of the band Nickel Creek, and then by a plaintive song by the Wailin' Jennys, at least one of whom sounds exactly like Emmylou Harris and made me swoon, practically. A red-tailed hawk soared into sight low over the field on the other side of the road, and I watched her glide back and forth for about five minutes until she sailed out of view. At that point I just stared at puffy white clouds in a sea of blue while music washed over my ears.

It was only a half-hour total, but it might've been the best half-hour of the year so far. Well, apart from that hamburger, maybe.

(The radio show was Studio Sparks on CBC Radio 2.)

A lot of people have this job. I managed to get some of it worked out, and things might go smoothly -- I have to hear back from a vendor tomorrow to know for sure.

Tom, birthday, shindig? Wow, I've never been to Dino's. Might be time to find out what all the buzz is about. Especially if it's a special occasion. :)
