Bag it

I like the grocery store I go to; it's small, independent, has just about everything I need, and is located across the street from Mom's apartment, which means it's close to me. But we don't exactly see eye-to-eye on bags. I've kind of given up on taking my own cloth bags, because I always have to explain what to do with them. Tonight I had problems asking for a paper bag. I wanted one paper bag so I could bundle up newspapers as kind of a recycling effort (also, I'm out of twine to tie papers with). But the clerk insisted on giving me a paper bag — actually two — while still packing my groceries in four plastic bags. She said it was easier. I still threw them away, because I have enough lying around for just-in-case and no one here recycles them. Somehow, I don't think reduce–reuse–recycle is catching on in my little corner of Earth.

By the way, suddenly it's my fourth anniversary here on LJ. Yay me!
