Bang bang

Gunman sought in Ferndale
Ferndale police are searching for a gunman who was shooting at the intersection of 9 Mile and Paxton around noon today.
OMG I used to live there! Well, three blocks south. But still. I was going to go for a fitness walk in that neighborhood tonight, too. I'm actually at least 50% freaked out right now.

On top of yesterday's shooting at an office building in Troy, I'm sure everyone thinks we're full of psychopathic killers here. Oh. Wait. We are. Does Antarctica require a visa?

Edited to Add (2:15 pm): Two gunmen have been arrested. One man (presumably the one they shot) has died.

Good grief. Disregard my last post. We're going to take up residence in the basement here.

Is it a big basement? Can I come too?

It's big enough. We have two couchs and a bed down there too. Plus a plug in fireplace because that's how we roll.

It seems to fashion these days to take up arms and do some senseless killing. Good thing I'm not very fashionable or the world would be a lot emptier. I'm rather a good shot and pretty fed up with a lot of things right now. But I'm just one voice in the crowd.

On the immigration note. A friend was recently deported to Canada. So far, it's been the best thing to happen to him in years. 7 years of trying to become legal in Detroit and now he's very happy back in Toronto. Wonder what it takes to get a green card there???

Everyone's living as if their lives are a goddamn Fox network TV show. Who has the energy to be scared of Islamic terrorists when Americans are shooting each other on the streets of our home towns?

I don't know if Canada has green cards, but they probably have some sort of temporary immigration thing. I remember when Bush was reelected, a lot of people on LJ were talking about how well they did on an immigration quiz from the government of Canada's website. (Probably just Google "Canada immigration" to find it.)

I know they're also looking for people who have job skills to offer that are needed in Canada. Me, I never thought of applying, because my big skill is singing folk songs by Canadians, and they already have people doing that. :)

Well, I live on the other side of town (a mile / mile and a half away). But I guess I just don't have the freak out factor. I may still walk to Java Hutt tonight (or maybe just veg...)

I'm over the acute freak-out symptoms. I'm just left with the chronic "world's going to hell in a handbasket" which isn't any different from usual.

I think the walk is out anyway, because I'm going to Trixie's in Roseville for open mic tonight and I need time for dinner first. But the lawlessness had better be off the streets by tomorrow, for I have spoken!

Damn... no emoticon for "open mic envy".....

The ONE night that we scheduled to see friends here is the same night that there's a decent open mic to attend... and our friends can't change their plans.

Have fun, anyway....

I'm planning to be a spectator tonight, 'cuz I played last week. Unless they have unexpected openings, I guess.

But at least you know when the good open mic is so next time you can plan around it.
