One more reason to dislike the president

I was running late already (or so I thought) to get to this new open mic-type show at Renaissance Unity tonight. Then the freeway slows to a crawl and the traffic reporter on the radio finally mentions that there's a presidential motorcade and I-696 would be closed for a while. So I did the only logical thing and got off the freeway near my usual exit for going home, and tried taking the most direct surface street. Two miles later, and it becomes apparent that the president was leaving from a venue on this very street. I finally got to the open mic fifty minutes late. Fortunately, they had held up the start because EVERYone was stuck in traffic (since Renaissance Unity is right on I-696).

Bush was in town campaigning for the Republican candidate for senator. Raised $700,000 during the event, believe it or not. (Says so right here.)

The open mic was fun, but because it started late not everyone got to play. I got squeezed in, but I kind of regret that, because I wasn't sure I really wanted to perform. The last couple of days at work have been really chaotic, and topping it all off with rotten traffic meant all I wanted was to slip into a cave somewhere and roll up into a little ball and hide. But the songs I played went well, so I guess it was OK. And with the president safely not in the city where I live, there's a chance things will be looking up soon.

With all the money that Monkey Boy spends on military & security items (justified or not), you'd think he could afford a chopper ride to his destination. Instead, we spent thousands on state and local police staffing, and spent way too much time in gridlock, because he took a motorcade smack in the middle of RUSH HOUR. (Must....control....fist... of...death.....)

I don't know yet if I'll be able to make the next such thingie at R.U., but I'll try to get those pictures burned soon. (Um... to CD-R, that is. They didn't come out badly enough for me to burn them in the literal sense.) :-)

I saw lots of good photos when you showed them to me last night, so no flame-age seems necessary.

Robin got caught in the same damn thing yesterday. I think it ended up taking him almost 2 hours to get home.

Eek. Yeah, that would suck, because he would've been behind the motorcade from Center Line all the way out I-94 to Selfridge. My condolences to him.

I would think Warren and Center Line would be among the last places in Michigan where Republicans want to be, since it's so not Republican there.

What's your Myspace name? Or is there a friends request sitting out there? (Could be, I haven't checked today.)

Because of course I'll cooperate in your spying. :-)
