The Plan

So here's The Plan: Wolf is on his way up I-75 (at the moment, he's in Piqua, Ohio -- he just called to tell me that) to spend a few days here in metro Detroit. Then he's driving me down to metro Louisville, where I will help him move. I understand the weather will be lovely, if by "lovely" one means "heat-stroke inducing." But he has hired movers, so all we have to do is pack boxes and tell people where to go (well, that's Wolf's job). Then next weekend, I get to drive back to Detroit in a rental truck filled with Wolf's old bedroom set and dining room set. Gods help me, I will officially become an adult, because I'll have matching furniture in the bedroom and the dining area.

To facilitate all this, the office is obligingly closing early today because of the Independence Day weekend, in addition to Monday and Tuesday being company holidays. Then I have the rest of the week off.

Ah, but the house is such a mess. I haven't been cleaning it because... well, because I hate housework. There. I've said it. Oh, it's not really bad. There's just stuff I'll have to do when I get home from work and then more stuff wish I'd gotten to. Where is the self-cleaning house when you need it?

You lucky...er...canine. We get only the 4th itself off, and the library must be open regular hours today, tomorrow, and Monday.

Have fun. Don't get heat stroke. Enjoy the movers if they are worth looking at (sometimes they are, sometimes not.)

And if that's the criteria for being grown up, I might as well move to Never Land now. The bedroom has my parent's 1950s dresser, my own 1970s mirror canopy waterbed, and my mate's eclectic antique dresser and hatrack. The dining room has the Swedish oak dining set that my parents owned when I was born and through my childhood. And ya know what? I'm not giving it up either. There's probably dirt in the underside of it that's older than I am.

If I had good old furniture like what you're describing, I wouldn't give it up either. My dining room table is from the 50s (cost $15 at a garage sale) and has metal legs that splay outward from the corners of the table. EVERYONE who has been in this house has kicked those legs at least once and endured awful pain. The chairs are of two different "sets" and in really bad shape. So getting a new set of furniture is a good thing, and the fact that it all matches is just a side benefit.

I'm hoping for an unexpected cold front that pushes the temperatures into the mid-70s, but I know better than that in the Ohio Valley.

Heh. I'd hope for high 80s and humidity to match so those hunky movers take their shirts off and flex for me. See how I am? ;D

Wolf says he's seen the movers from the company he's using, and "you don't want to see them with their shirts off." What a pity. :)

Hmm.... this answers what I was going to ask you. (Namely, if you were going to Bliss this year...)

Yup, no Bliss for me this year. I'll miss you guys... it was all timing conflicts for me (seems to be my recurrent theme for 2006). Hope you have fun!
