New Job!

I'm starting a new job in a couple of weeks. Same company, just changing departments. Instead of editing/project managing like I've been doing the last twenty years (can you believe that?), I'll be learning and doing typesetting. I've been working on online databases a lot over the last few years, so typesetting books almost seems so last-century. But I like books, and I like geeky stuff and this job looks like it'll be very geeky. I won't quite be safe from delinquent authors, but at least I'll be one step farther down the line—and I won't be the one trying to cajole them to get their work done. The hard part is leaving behind the coworkers in my present department, who are a really great bunch of people, and the subject matter we've been working on (science for middle and high school students). The people in the composition department are really cool, though, too.

I actually applied for this job, too. Me, initiating change! Didja feel that little wobble of Earth on its axis?

Interesting direction for change. I'll look forward to hearing about current typesetting methods and fonts and stuff. I like that stuff too. :) Obviously, you wanted this, so congrats.

Hee, yes, ditto. And well done, C-dawg.

Thanks :-) I almost applied the last time the job came up a couple of years ago. I'm glad I didn't let the ol' fear of change stop me this time.

Thanks :) I've done a little desktop typesetting before, but this will be leaps and bounds past what I've been doing before. It'll be interesting to be on that end of the curses from editors about page layouts and such. :-)

Congratulations! I know you were considering this change for a little while... Are the Powers That Be going to make you finish any books before you switch?

Hmm... we need to get our calendars sizzlin'. I see a gig or two on the horizon (yours and ours together...)

Fortunately, I finished The Demon Book from Hell just last week (well, it's at the printer, so other people can worry about it now), and I don't have a new one assigned yet, so it's the perfect timing for a change.

Gigs? Gigs? Us? Um, yeah, we should do something, huh.... :)

Kudos! Sounds like an interesting change. Years of doing the same thing can get dull after a while.

Thanks :-) I think I was kind of burned out. There are still fun aspects to the old job, but I was getting kind of toasty, if you know what I mean. There'll be lots of new things in the new job.

Good for you.
Change is not always bad. Look at me. Hell, my WHOLE life chaged 3 years ago

Re: Good for you.
True.... although I think your change was a bit more traumatic.

Thanks :-)
