Miss Elane E.S. Stuff

I saw the story "They're Made of Meat" by Terry Bisson posted in another LJ. It's actually a one-act play and pretty short but good. Science-fictiony, it is. Here's the story on Bisson's website for you to read if you're interested.

I'm not sure what to think about this. I did notice some involuntary trembling, though.

Tonight is open stage at The Ark in Ann Arbor. I'm going to meet up with jjfmi for Cottage Inn pizza beforehand, and then we'll head over to try to get on the list. It should stop snowing by then, I guess. We've had about two inches of snow or so in the last 12-18 hours; nothing major, but it's sticking to the trees and making things awful pretty.

Some of you may wish that you had attended the Detroit Auto Show yesterday. (Note: I can't get used to calling it by its formal name yet, mostly because of Mike Anton's song "Detroit Auto Show.")

Current weather: Overcast, windy and 29°F (−2°C)

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to the pizza. I'm sure the open mic will be good too, but I'm a little bit mellowed out still after Friday night's energy-fest. :) But I can do the Ark, it's only two songs... and there's a chance I'll just be watching, because that's how it works sometimes. (They draw names from a hat, or rather a popcorn cup. If I don't get drawn this week, they;ll give me my ticket back and I can put it in next time along with the one I get then -- two chances the second time around.)

I'm due for a miss; I've been selected every time I've gone there in the last two years. But I have the guitar with me just in case the good-luck streak continues.

I heard this performed on a tape from SciFi.com's "Seeing Ear Theatre" great bit.

We're all just meat
Sounds kind of dirty, doesn't it? ;-)

I bet it would work really well performed. It sounded good in my head when I read it.

Thanks to ferndalealex's tip, I went to SciFi.com ... they may still have a copy there. I didn't download anything, so I don't really know, but try http://www.scifi.com/set/playhouse/meat/ .
