Last allied witness of WWI Christmas truce dies

'Twas Christmas in the trenches, where the frost so bitter hung
The frozen fields of France were warmed as songs of peace were sung
The walls they built between us to exact the work of war
Had been crumbled and were gone forevermore

--John McCutcheon

Such a great song. I had never heard of this piece of history before the song.

I think I had heard some of the story before the song came my way, but the song fills in all the details, from what I understand.

Garth Brooks sings a different song on the same subject, but it's nowhere near as good as John McCutcheon's.
