Show Review, and stuff

The Saturday night show was mostly good. I thought I did pretty well. Had a set list planned, which made things flow better. No stammering and long uncomfortable pauses between songs; that's always good. Mike's part of the show sounded good too. I hope their recording came out well. There were downsides, though. We didn't draw a very large crowd. That could make the applause at the end of the songs sound kind of thin on the recording. My main issue was that my guitar sounded like the guitar equivalent of a child's toy piano with less bass. It was terribly annoying to me, but I didn't exactly know how it sounded on the other side of the speakers -- apparently it was about as weak and tinny there as I thought. Grrr. Maybe I should offer my services as sound tech. I dunno. But enough of my grouching.

Set list:

First set:
  1. Traveling Clothes
  2. Halfway Across Iowa
  3. Panther in Michigan
  4. Gentle Song
  5. Flow Like a River
  6. Riding the Highline
Second set:
  1. I Believe in a Song
  2. Hawks
  3. Sometimes

In other news, I did a ton of yardwork before the show, and that seems to have aggravated the knee pain I've had on and off since the winter (when I ran into one of the seats at the Ark while I was walking toward the stage during an open mic). At least the yard looks nice, or as nice as it can when your neighborhood is on the edge of a drought. . . . I got a serious start on modifying the CD art for my first CD, so I can get some more copies of it from the manufacturer. I decided on a 2-panel sheet instead of a 4-panel booklet; otherwise I'd be here all summer trying to fill the space in the artwork. . . . It's way too hot here, but apparently we have rain on the way from a certain menace named Dennis (robearal, hope you're doing OK; storm might be over your head as I'm typing this). Well, the grass could use it, that's for sure.

ahhh hurricane rains, i almost forgot...

knee pain sucks, just readin that mine started aching just at the thought.. do you have a health food supply near your house? uh.. ferndale right? if so, that was a stupid question, but go get you some Udo's Perfected Oil Blend and some sea grass and aloe water:) if you mix it with fruit juice it wont seem so blah tasting. will help you keep your body strong and healthy and heal more rapidly. not to mention what all the other benefits.

sorry to hear about your sound situation... you know how the old saying goes, "if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself".

I'll look into the Udo's Perfected Oil Blend. There's a health food store in downtown Ferndale, which is pretty convenient. Of course, I could lose a few pounds and my knees wouldn't complain so much (or my ankles, or feet, or...).

I know I can work the sound at Xhedos good enough for me. I did it three nights before at the open mic. I probably should've spoken up, but this time around I was probably lucky to be playing since the main part of the show was Mike's live recording. Still... well, I wasn't sure it sounded bad out in the room till I was offstage.
