It's 70-some degrees and sunny out, which explains why I'm in a coffee house about to pass on a meme.

Said meme takes its name from Mel Brooks' A History of the World (Part I), and, upon receiving it, one is supposed to list five things that one's circle of friends or peer group is wild about, but that one can’t really understand the fuss over. Quoth Caesar, "Nice. Nice. Not thrilling . . . but nice."

  1. Sour cream. Tim Horton's sour cream donuts are OK, but sour cream glopped onto baked potatoes and Mexican food, I just don't get. (And how do you tell when it goes bad, if it's already sour?)
  2. Cell phones that do a dozen things besides just phone calls. OK, cool, but... I already have a digital camera, and I can't see games on a screen that small (physically, not metaphorically).
  3. Divas. I mean Cher, Barbra, Celine, and that sort. I appreciate the talent, can't help but notice the notoriety, but they don't exactly sing my life (unlike the average unknown singer/songwriter).
  4. Yu-Gi-Oh. OK, it's just my nephew and his wife, and now they're teaching my sister how to play. But Advanced Dungeons & Dragons was so much better.
  5. Shaved heads or short buzz cuts on guys. Yeah, it can look good, but it's way overdone these days. Way way way overdone. (On the other hand, it did make Audra Kubat look very intriguing at the Xhedos Open Mic a couple of weeks ago....)

And now, I'm supposed to ask three others to do this. Don't blame me, altivo, georgelicious, and jjfmi, I'm just following the rules as passed on by ferndalealex. If anyone else wants to do this one, though, I'll read your results.

It's been decades since I saw History of the World (Part I)... I barely remember the scene in question. I'm still waiting for the "Jews In Space" segment of Part II.

Ooh! This is a tough one, it will require thought on my part. I will post it sometime soon.

It took me three updates to get all five items. I finished it in shifts so I didn't lose any thoughts as I went.

Doesn't look all that difficult. I'm stuck at work on Saturday afternoon, but I will post a full version later.

Number one: Chocolate. I don't get it.
Number two: Television. Ditto.
Number three: Professional sports.
Number four: Cell phones.
Number five: Loud music or anything loud.

Sour cream is delicious. I'll take your share. When it goes bad it gets moldy. I agree with you about Divas, Cell phones (only moreso), and buzz cuts.

You can have the sour cream. I'll take the chocolate. Sounds like a fair trade.

Er... um.....

Coming up with stuff I don't understand is one thing.. listing only FIVE might be problematic. Gotta think on this one a bit. (I was up WAY past my usual bedtime last night, and am still experiencing severe groginess...)
